In Action
In Summer of 2022, Discovering You partnered with a local Boys & Girls Club to provide Youth Entrepreneurship, Global Leadership, & Money Management classes to 20 foster youth ages 13-17.
Mock Interviews
In week 2, the youth learned that even those destined to be entrepreneurs have worked at least one job. In this lesson, the youth learned:
How to write a resume
Where to look for jobs and how to read a job posting
How to dress for an interview
How to properly shake hands
Professional behavior
The youth were able to use their mock businesses that they created in Week 1 for creating job postings and practice interviewing each other for those positions. By using constructive criticism, they were able to tweak their responses and behaviors for better interactions during the second round.
Art Gallery
In week 3, the youth learned that being an entrepreneur in the nonprofit field is called a Founder. This lesson taught:
What is a nonprofit?
How to use a nonprofit to address needs in our communities and what are the current needs we see?
Ways to fund a nonprofit organization.
By incorporating art and culture into the lesson, the youth had the opportunity to paint, design, and set up an art gallery to raise funds for their mock nonprofits.
